Do I have to bring my own handgun and ammunition?
No, you do not have to bring your own firearm to the class. We have pistols at the range you may rent for $25, plus the cost of ammunition.
Does it matter if I bring a revolver or a semi-automatic handgun to qualify?
No, it does not matter. As of September 1, 2013; the state has eliminated the restrictions that applied to qualifying with a a revolver. Now you are able to qualify with either a revolver or semi-automatic handgun. You may carry either type of handgun no matter which type you used to qualify. You are not allowed to use any optical enhancers (similar to lasers or red dot sights).
How difficult is the shooting qualification?
Feedback we have received from participants is that the course is not difficult. Legislature did not enact this law or design it in such a matter as to prohibit the ordinary, safety conscious, responsible adult citizen from being able to successfully meet the requirements. Shooting for the qualification is the high point on the day. Safety and education is paramount. Arriving with the appropriate mindset to learn and apply will serve most participants best and you will have a great time.
How long does the class last?
The law requires the course time required (4.5 hours of classroom instruction standard safety course, other courses may required additional instruction times). Times listed per course do not include time on the range or any time taken for breaks. Standard course will run approximately 5-6 hours total.
